The scent, color, and the impact it has on my instrument’s body are incomparable to anything else I’ve tried, and I’m so glad I kept searching
for the right material. It reminds me of something. There’s a part of musical instruments called the reed (mostly made from a plant called
Arundo donax), which is used for producing sound. Many specialists work with this material, but one supplier switched to aluminum
packaging, and the sound quality drastically worsened.
I’m not sure how to explain it scientifically, but I’ve been aware for over 10 years that the material in contact with the instrument affects
its sound. When I rewrapped another supplier’s product in aluminum, it resulted in the same poor sound quality. While I’ve only experienced
this with musical instruments, seeing health foods and various other items sold in aluminum packaging made me wonder if the aluminum
might be diminishing the inherent power of the contents.
For woodwind instruments, prolonged exposure to hand sweat on the outside and moisture from playing on the inside causes the sound
to deteriorate over time. As the fibers on both the exterior and interior become frayed, it alters the way the instrument vibrates (especially
as the internal air column shifts), and I believe that the sweat absorbed by the exterior and the potential bacteria growth inside also contribute to this degradation.
We try to maintain the instrument by oiling it and polishing it with abrasive compounds, but this doesn’t fundamentally restore the sound.
There are also many factors related to the metal key components, but in the end, high-quality old instruments are often abandoned when they
reach the end of their lifespan.
Through experience, I’ve found that polishing with beeswax, without using abrasive compounds, prevents the sound from deteriorating,
and in some cases, it even improves slightly. As for dealing with bacteria inside the instrument, I’ve tried various methods, including alcohol,
but I hadn’t found a solution that worked well from the perspective of sound quality—until now.
When I used the Strong Manuka Oil and beeswax you sent me, I knew I had found it! Polishing with this beeswax made the instrument
resonate in an incredible way, and based on my experience, I think it sounds even better than when it was brand new. Also, the
Strong Manuka Oil is fantastic for maintaining hygiene inside the instrument, and it drastically improves the sound. I diluted it with jojoba
oil for oiling, and I’m convinced that I want to keep using this!
I’m both amazed and grateful for the beeswax you kindly sent me, and I’m determined to continue using it. If you have any more available,
