I am currently experiencing the painful symptoms of post-nasal drip. Unfortunately, very few doctors, whether in otolaryngology or internal
medicine, are able to treat this condition effectively. I’ve realized that the success rate of treating illnesses and symptoms with Western medicine is surprisingly low.
Post-nasal drip is a condition where nasal discharge drips down the throat due to nasal congestion. If the discharge is watery,
it can pass through the esophagus into the stomach without any issues. However, when the discharge becomes thick and mucus-like, it tends
to stay in the throat, causing food to get stuck as well. Both the throat and mouth feel sticky. Sometimes, it can take up to an hour to expel this
mucus-like substance, and the sensation of choking can become quite severe.
I believe your Manuka honey is effective in treating this difficult condition. When phlegm builds up in my throat and I begin to feel discomfort,
I instinctively take some Manuka honey, and it soothes me immediately, alleviating the pain in my throat.
Recently, though not common, one of the causes of post-nasal drip has been identified as inflammation in the nasopharynx. A treatment
involving the application of zinc chloride to the nasopharynx is being practiced. I also undergo this treatment by visiting Kyoto once a week.
Since it’s only once a week, I rely on nasal rinsing and coughing up phlegm to manage the symptoms. This illness is quite painful, and at times, I feel like I might choke.
I believe Manuka honey has been very helpful in alleviating these symptoms. Though I cannot explain it medically, it seems like my throat is
happy with the honey. Unlike other substances, Manuka honey doesn’t cause acid reflux, and the post-nasal drip, which used to irritate my
stomach and cause heartburn, has improved. Particularly, the belching and heartburn I used to experience after meals have subsided.
While I don’t think that Manuka honey can completely cure post-nasal drip, it has certainly become essential for me. I feel that Manuka honey,
with its strong anti-inflammatory properties, is gradually improving my condition.
